This proposa, for LFA 2021, themed around ‘care’ was named after a song by Jeffrey Lewis song entitled - “It’s the ones who’ve cracked that the light shines through”.
The piece, conceived at the height of the pandemic, explored the notion that we are all broken and how cold-water swimming helps a growing section of society repair those cracks. To be located at the Parliament Hill Lido, London, the proposal consisted of a shattered mirror pieced together using Kintsugi, a Japanese technique traditionally used for repairing broken ceramics. It was proposed that visitors would be asked to contribute testimonials of how the Lido may have helped them to recover from mental or physical illness.
